Shell Island

Situated in North Wales, Llanbedr.
Another blog…Another adventure!!
Shell Island is a place that I have been going to since a young child. It’s a place that we just never seem to get tired of. It is set in a unique location surrounded by the Welsh mountains.
Although it seems busy during peak periods on the campsite, if you give yourself time to explore the island you will find huge stunning stretches of clean sandy beaches.

If you are looking for the most fascinating sunset then this is the place to visit. You don’t even have to camp, you can just visit the island for the day.

When you arrive you can choose your own camping spot. It’s definetly a good idea to drive around the island first. Whether you chose to pitch near the secluded sand dunes, facing the harbour or even just looking at the beautiful mountains in the distance.
Our favourite part of Shell Island is the south beach. It runs for 6 miles all the way to Barmouth. The south-facing beach has the most remarkable sand dunes, giving the feeling of being abroad.
We had an unexpected delight on our last visit and were lucky to have the perfect spot. We were able to watch the disappearance of the sun below the horizon from our set up. The endless burst of colours in the sky were just captivating.
There are plenty of activities for families. Fishing and crabbing seems to be a favourite. On rainy days you can leave the island and drive a short distance into the next town.
With a check out time of 3pm there’s no rush to leave and you can enjoy some extra time on the island.
One thing I would suggest though…check the tide times before you arrive or you may not be able to get onto the island until the tide is out!
Thank you for having us Shell Island. See you again soon ♥️
